Network anomaly detection

An academic project exploring temporal and spatial patterns in network behavior.

Academic & internshipAcademic studyBachelor’s project · 2009–2010

The system at a glance.

A conceptual view of the flow and its boundaries.

The challenge.

The work studied how network-feature observations could be used to investigate anomalous traffic behavior.

My contribution.

Contributed Java web interfaces, request processing, database integration and test support to the academic project.

Implementation.

  • Built servlet and JSP interfaces for processing requests and presenting information.
  • Used JDBC for relational storage access and implemented input validation.
  • Supported role-aware interface modules, JUnit tests, logging and deployment.

Design decisions.

Temporal and spatial views capture different aspects of network behavior.

An academic detection study requires separate evaluation before operational use.

Validation.

JUnit testing, use-case review and application debugging supported the project.

The outcome.

Gained experience connecting analytical concepts with a Java web application.

Explore the pattern.

The companion repository is an independent educational demonstration built with synthetic examples. It illustrates related engineering patterns and does not contain employer source code or production data. Repositories are currently private; please contact me for access.
