Wireless sensor security

An academic investigation of hybrid AES and ECC techniques in wireless sensor networks.

Academic & internshipAcademic studyUniversity of Bedfordshire · 2011–2012

The system at a glance.

A conceptual view of the flow and its boundaries.

The challenge.

The research explored how symmetric and asymmetric methods could support authentication and key exchange for constrained sensor networks.

My contribution.

Built simulation and interface components and studied hybrid cryptography in an academic setting.

Implementation.

  • Built software to simulate a wireless sensor network in Linux.
  • Studied a hybrid encryption approach combining AES and ECC.
  • Developed graphical and web interfaces to access the simulation and present results.

Design decisions.

Key exchange and message encryption solve different parts of the communication problem.

Simulation results inform study; they do not establish production security assurance.

Validation.

Network simulation and graphical analysis supported evaluation of the academic approach.

The outcome.

Explored the behavior of hybrid cryptographic techniques in a simulated sensor network.

Explore the pattern.

The companion repository is an independent educational demonstration built with synthetic examples. It illustrates related engineering patterns and does not contain employer source code or production data. Repositories are currently private; please contact me for access.
