Test data self-service

A proof of concept for requesting test accounts through APIs and a browser interface.

Earlier professional workApplication engineeringAT&T tenure · May 2014–December 2017

The system at a glance.

A conceptual view of the flow and its boundaries.

The challenge.

Testers needed accounts with specific features in a selected environment without depending on production-data copying.

My contribution.

Worked on the proof of concept through requirements, Java web development, service integration and demonstrations.

Implementation.

  • Developed browser views and Java application components for the prototype.
  • Integrated WS-Security-based web services and modeled feature-driven use cases.
  • Created build scripts, test cases and application demonstrations.

Design decisions.

Test-account creation should be explicit about environment and requested capabilities.

A proof of concept establishes feasibility; production scale and reliability require separate work.

Validation.

Prototype test cases, debugging and client demonstrations supported feasibility evaluation.

The outcome.

Demonstrated a self-service approach to test-account preparation.

Explore the pattern.

The companion repository is an independent educational demonstration built with synthetic examples. It illustrates related engineering patterns and does not contain employer source code or production data. Repositories are currently private; please contact me for access.
